Of Myths and Magic

Have you ever wished you could be off fighting a dragon, swimming in the deepest depths, or conjuring sights to behold? Me too and with the Magical Day set you can do just that. This set is perfect for someone on their own magical day or even for kids to color and play with. This was the one set I wanted more than anything at OnStage live in November and guess what? I was lucky enough to win it during prize patrol that very same weekend! As soon as I got home I was inspired to create these cards using products from both the Occasions and Annual catalog.

group

When I sat down to get the creativity going I knew two things; I wanted to use the Bundle of Love Specialty DSP (Annual, 103) and the Brick Wall embossing folder (Annual, 210). The Magical Day stamp set (Occasions, 37) has so many fun and versatile characters and I’m so excited to play with the Myths & Magic Specialty DSP (Occasions, 37) and create even more wonderful cards!

wizard

To start of this band of characters I knew an old wizard would be perfect and what else would go with this stamp? The Softly Falling embossing folder (Annual, 211) definitely would! I started off by embossing a piece of Smoky Slate and attaching it to a Perfect Plum card base using adhesive. Next, I cut Whisper White pieces to be the perfect size for my wizard, greeting, and even some magic. I stamped the first half of the greeting in Smoky Slate and stamped the word Magical in Perfect Plum. I attached that to a piece of Perfect Plum and set it aside.

Next, I stamped the wizard in Smoky Slate and colored him in using Perfect Plum, Smoky Slate, and Perfect Plum. I knew I wanted my magic to look smoked out and thought of the perfect way to do it. I stamped the magic on both the smallest Whisper White piece and the wizard with full strength Perfect Plum in the center of where I wanted the magic cloud to be. Next, I stamped around it with the color stamped off once. Lastly, I went in with an aqua painter and Perfect Plum to just give it a bit more of a cloud shape. I attached both to Perfect Plum card stock pieces.

I worked for a bit trying to get my pieces in the perfect order before I attached to the card base. Once I had it all together I realized Wink of Stella (Annual, 200) would be the perfect touch so I added it to the magic clouds as well as the word magical.

unicorn

Next, I worked on the majestic unicorn. I knew with the gold from the Bundle of Love DSP that pink would be the perfect color to match. First I stamped the greeting and then embossed it with my gold embossing powder (Annual, 200). I attached to a piece of Rose Red card stock and set it aside.

I took a piece of Whisper White card stock and stamped the unicorn in Rose Red. Then I went in with Rose Red and an aqua painter to make myself a pink unicorn! Lastly, I wanted my magic to sparkle for real this time so I embossed it with some gold embossing powder for an extra shine. I attached it to a piece of Rose Red and set it aside.

For the last bit I used a piece of the Bundle of Love Specialy DSP to glam up the Rose Red card base. Lastly, I attached the greeting with adhesive and used dimensionals to prop up the unicorn.

dragon

For my last card the fierce dragon is who rounds out my group of cards. The first thing I had to do was stamp the greeting. I used Emerald Envy stampin’ ink and attached it to an Emerald Envy card stock piece. I set it aside while I moved on to my dragon. I stamped him in Archival Basic Black and used aqua painters to color him in with Emerald Envy, Daffodil Delight, and Pumpkin Pie. I attached my dragon to a piece of Emerald Envy card stock.

Before I could finish my card I needed a castle for him to guard. I used the Brick Wall embossing folder on Smoky Slate card stock to create the wall. I lined up where I wanted my other pieces to go and wrapped a 1/8″ Gold Ribbon (Annual, 198) between the two. I finished attaching my pieces using adhesive and my cards were done!

I’m planning on creating a class outline centered around these cards so follow the blog and keep an eye out for when that will be posted. I also have a class outline posted for the cards featured in my previous post; you can check that out here. Below are more places you can find me posting card ideas and the like. I hope you all have a wonderful and magical week!

Sarah Liz
